Senior Days at the Great New York State Fair: August 28 and 29, 2017

The Great New York State Fair is once again offering free admission to older adults on two special days. Attendees aged 60 and older are offered free admission on Monday, August 28 and Tuesday, August 29. ID showing date of birth may be requested to allow free admittance.

NYSOFA’s Aging Services Mobile App
Visit the New York State Office for the Aging’s booth in the Science and Industry Building to learn more about NYSOFA’s first in the nation statewide aging services mobile app.

The New York State Office for the Aging’s aging services mobile app provides basic information about issues important to older New Yorkers and their families and connects them to live, local resources. Older adults or caregivers on the go anywhere in New York can also immediately get addresses, mapped directions, and contact information for local offices for the aging, senior centers, farmers’ markets, caregiver services, Alzheimer’s Association chapters, and more, in their communities. The free app is available for download on iOS devices and Android devices. NYSOFA staff will be available to discuss features of the app and how to download it.

Be Active; Stay Healthy
NYSOFA has also teamed up with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to highlight how older New Yorkers can stay healthy by being active, which includes a NYSOFA article in the popular DEC publication, The Conservationist. Stop by the table to get a copy of the article.

New and Improved!
Under Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s leadership, the fairgrounds have had many upgrades and improvements, and they need to be seen to be truly appreciated.

New Reception Area
There is a new reception area for senior group bus and van parking, and a special parking permit for this location will be required. Please contact the fair’s Art & Home Center office at (315) 487-7711, ext. 1265 to pre-register for this permit.

Transportation Tram
Fairgoers are able to make use of the fair’s internal tram network for free on the two senior days, with the service running from 9am to 8pm. These trams travel around the perimeter road, making 11 scheduled stops.

Visit and Speak with NYSOFA Staff
The New York State Office for the Aging will have a presence at the fair all week. Staff will be handing out a variety of materials helpful for older New Yorkers and their loved ones, including NYSOFA’s most recent publication: The Older New Yorker’s Pocket Guide to Resources. It contains a bevy of useful information for older New Yorkers and their caregivers. Come grab a free copy!
