Medicare Preventive Services: Worth a Pound of Cure

Prevention is the best medicine. The Affordable Care Act removes barriers to preventive health care services, allowing older adults to take charge of their own health and helping individuals and their providers better prevent illness, detect problems, and monitor health conditions. The Affordable Care Act has helped eliminate the coinsurance and Part B deductible for certain recommended preventive services covered by Medicare, including many cancer screenings and other important benefits.

Medicare covers many preventive services. As long as you meet basic eligibility standards, you have the right to receive these services whether you have original Medicare or a Medicare Advantage Plan (Medicare private health plan).
