NYSOFA's Annual Senior Citizens' Day Event

Each May, NYSOFA celebrates Senior Citizens' Day as part of the National Older American's Month. This year's event, which is to recognize and honor the significant contributions made by older volunteers in NY, will be held in the Hart Theater Lounge at the Egg from 11:30 AM - 3:00 PM. A group of about 150 volunteers, family members, legislative leaders and professionals from the field of aging will be in attendance. The theme for this year's event, Unleash the Power of Age, recognizes the potential energies of older individuals which can be unleashed through civic engagement to address pressing social and community needs.

At the event, legislative leaders from the Senate and Assembly often attend and address the participants. The respective Chairs of the Senate and Assembly aging committees always attend and deliver brief comments and present the "Senior Citizen of the Year" and "Outstanding Contribution by a Senior" awards on behalf the Legislature.

The 59 Area Agencies on Aging select two constituents from their counties to represent their county. NYSOFA prepares certificates that are presented to these individuals as part of the formal Senior Citizens' Day ceremony and also produces programs/commemorative booklets for the event.
