NEW YORK STATE OFFICE FOR THE AGING:
Freedom Of Information Law (FOIL) Requests

The Freedom of Information Law reaffirms your right to know how your government operates. It provides rights of access to records reflective of governmental decisions and policies that affect the lives of every New Yorker. In New York State, each department and/or agency has a contact person for the public to contact in order to make a request for information as allowed for under the Freedom of Information statute.

In order to make a request of the New York State Office for the Aging, your request should be forwarded in writing to:

  • Albany, NY 12223-1251
NOTE: It is suggested that your request be posted via "return receipt requested", however this is not required.

If you prefer to file your request electronically, you may do so by sending your request to the Aging FOIL Officer.

Upon appointment, public records maintained by the New York State Office for the Aging are available for inspection or copying on weekdays between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the New York State Office for the Aging, Two Empire State Plaza, Albany, NY 12223. Please contact the agency’s FOIL Officer to schedule an appointment.

Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) Fee Schedule

A fee of $0.25 per page for copies of documents and/or computer printout pages may be applied to your request. Further, according to Public Officers Law Section 87.1(c), in determining the actual cost of producing a record, an agency may include an amount equal to the hourly salary attributed to the lowest paid employee who has the necessary skill required to prepare the requested record(s).

Right to Appeal

To the extent you believe you have been denied access to a record by the Executive Chamber, you have thirty (30) days from the date of the determination to take a written appeal. You may make an appeal by writing:
