Adult Home
Adults aged 18 and over are eligible to live in Adult Homes, which are licensed by the New York State Department of Health. Operators provide three congregate meals per day, housekeeping, socialization activities, supportive services, supervision, and personal care to five or more adults unrelated to the operator. Living units consist of private or shared rooms and private or shared baths. In some Adult Homes, all residents are aged 60 and over; in others, all residents are under the age of 60; and in some, there is a mixture of older and younger-aged residents. Some Adult Home operators may be licensed by the Department of Health as a Limited Licensed Home Care Services Agency, which allows them to provide additional personal care and health-related services to residents. Both the rent and the cost of services and care in an Adult Home are included in one monthly charge. Residents can use private resources to pay for monthly charges; those below a specified income level are eligible for subsidization through the federal and state Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Programs.
