Active Adult Community
These can be a single multiunit building or multiple multiunit apartment buildings, condominiums, or cooperatives, or a complex of single family homes, duplexes, or mobile homes, which are restricted to persons at or over a specified age (defined variously as 50, 55, 60, 62, or 65). These communities may include amenities and recreational and social activities, but are not planned to include supportive assistance, personal care, or health care. They do not require licensure by the New York State Health Department. These communities are typically marketed to active, healthy, younger seniors. This is a "market-driven" option, chosen by seniors who do not need a supportive living environment, but who are seeking a lifestyle change during their early retirement years.
